Cape Town – While one UK town hit the spotlight when a picture of a semi-naked man mysteriously appeared with their Google map last week, another made headlines with a rather raunchy map.
Oh dear, little English towns – we know sex sells and you desperately want some attention, but we feel like you’re being a little brazen about it.
Huffington Post reports that Berkhamsted, a historic town in England, recently launched an informative tourist map of its canal and waterfront, only to discover that the area looks alarmingly much like, well, a penis.
Apparently tourism officials said they hadn’t noticed the phallic shape until people started commenting on it when they shared the map on Facebook and Twitter.
However, by this time it was too late to change anything, as it had already been posted on the Canal & River Trust's visitor site.
The Canal & River Trust have taken the whole thing in their stride, though, as they reposted a photo of the map on their Facebook page with the caption:
“What can we say, other than visit Berkhamstead! With MailOnline and BuzzFeed weighing in, we're raising awareness of the dangers of canal mapping. Have a laugh, vote in The Mirror's poll, and get out to your local canal!”
It was met with a few classic responses like:
Del Archie Spike Neilson - Many seamen have sailed along this leg.
Kev Sullivan - If only it really was deliberate to generate awareness.... but I doubt that. ... However, all publicity is good I guess. I live inBerko BTW.
Jeroen Verbeek - isn't Berkhamsted also not located near the Butts Meadow Recreation Ground ??
