WATCH: Northern Cape, Free State, Eastern Cape flood after heavy rain

Cape Town - While the Western Cape is battling relentless fires in hot and dry conditions, the Free State, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape especially received heavy downpours over the past few days, causing rivers to flood.

In the central parts of the Eastern Cape over Cradock and Tarkastad, heavy rain of up to 70mm has been recorded on Wednesday afternoon alone.

The Great Fish River also came down in flood due to the rains, bringing down massive trees and debris as it flows.

In the Free State, rivers were also flooded. Photos and video posted to the Reënval in SA Facebook group show the areas of Waterbron, Bultfontein and Kroonstad flooded.

Areas around Bloemfontein reportedly received more than 185mm in only 40 minutes on Wednesday, 11 January.

The South African Weather Service has forecast more rain in the area for the rest of the week.
