WATCH: Winners of the 'Wow Beach' category in the World's Best Beach Awards will have you longing for summer

These are the winners of the 'wow beach' category of the worlds best beach awards, more than 1600 beaches were scouted by beach-inspector

Making use of up to 120 criteria to evaluate seaside locations, beach-inspector compiles a list of the best beaches in the world. 

Beach-inspector, considered the world's first dedicated beach information platform, has for three years been visiting beaches and their surroundings and assessing them using various evaluation criteria. 

The criteria ranges from beach development, infrastructure, water quality to the child friendliness and visitor profile of the beach. 

Surprisingly, South Africa's beautiful beaches have not made the cut on the top "Wow Beaches" despite the Western Cape having one of the most instagrammed beaches in the world. To that we have one word - wow.  

Here are the winners in the 'Wow Beach' category:  

Manda Bay - Kenya

A dreamy beach located at the rear end of Manda Island, Manda Bay will enchant with fine, white sands and laidback vibes.

Diani Beach - Kenya

Considered by some to be Africa's most famous beach, make sure you bring the shades out as the beating sun and white white sand can leave you and your unprotected eyes dazzled. 

Cala Mariolu - Sardinia,  Italy

Sardinia's most beautiful beach and tourist magnet Cala Mariolu is largely accessible via the water With exceptionally turquoise waters, majestic cliffs above the white pebbled beach, it's not hard to see why this beach is so beloved.

Playa de Cofete - Fuerteventura, Spain

This is not a beach to go swimming - seriously do not swim here. While the beach itself is quite beautiful, stretching over 11 kilometres with a mountain range as a backdrop, the currents here are incredibly strong. 

Pai Plong Beach - Ruffian, Thailand

If you want a little bit of beach and a little bit of jungle then this is the beach for you. Completely enclosed by steep rocks and jungle vegetation, this bay is endlessly breath-taking. 

Playa de ses Illetes - Formentera, Spain

This is a real gem. With a seemingly endless array of blues in their waters and a near endless expanse of beach you may want to never leave!

Trou aux Biches Beach - Mauritius

Another African beach that has more than earned a well-deserved spot on this list, this dreamlike beach has soft sands, welcoming waters and palm trees that set the scene perfectly.

Semeti Beach - Lombok, Indonesia

Unspoilt by the touch of humanity, this beauty of nature is barely known and completely natural. Come here to enjoy tranquility and an untouched natural environment. 

Nui Beach - Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

The endlessly popular Koh Phi Phi is your gateway to this real nugget of a beach. easily reached by boat, the beach feels secluded and untouched leaving you to enjoy the natural splendour in a state of complete tranquility.

Playa de los Muertos - Costa da Almeria, Spain

Don't let the name frighten you (it translates to 'beach of the dead'), this is definitely a beach for the living to enjoy! 

Praia de João de Arens -Algarve, Portugal

In a remote and rocky bay, travellers from all over the world journey in order to seek the joy and beauty of the picturesque beach. 

Playa Punta Uva - Costa Rica

This is pure Costa Rica. Sloping palms trees and clear waters make this a must-see beach for anyone dreaming of a Caribbean getaway. 

Imagine the beauty of three islands connected by sandbanks and surrounded by turquoise waters. With Koh Nang Yuan beach travellers don't have to imagine with this post-card perfect beach.

Blue Lagoon - Cyprus

The name may be synonymous with the Brook Shields film but this beach is equally, if not more beautiful. Blue azure waters and soft sands make this a great place to fall in love - with the beach. 

Whitehaven Beach - Australia

This must be one of the most magnificent beaches in the world. Mother nature was really showing off on this one. only reachable by boat or seaplane, this incredible beach has silky soft, super-fine white sand that feels as luxurious as it looks.

Canto de la Playa - Dominican Republic

White sands, curved palm trees and welcoming turquoise waters make this one of the most attractive Caribbean beaches in the world.

Dolphin Reef Beach - Israel

Named for its frequent inhabitants, this oasis-like beach is incredibly popular for more than just dolphins. 

Cala Conta - Ibiza, Spain

Offering visitors an authentic island feel, this fantasy beach with bright blue waters that seem to extend forever is oft considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Ibiza.
