African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says that the party must act following Mcebisi Jonas's announcement that the Guptas offered him the Minister of Finance post before Nhlanhla Nene was fired. "The appointment of minister remains the prerogative of the President," says Kodwa.

Speaking to News24's Genevieve Quintal, Kodwa says the incident erodes the authority of the President, government and the leadership of the ANC.

"The ANC must act decisively to send a very unambiguous and clear message that it won't allow its government including the leadership of the ANC to be influenced by any individual regardless of their balance sheet." Quintal then asks about the Gupta's membership to the ANC, something Kodwa said that was immaterial to the matter at hand.
