Increasingly volatile protest action at university campuses is running into a fourth consecutive day. 

On Thursday morning News24 reporter Jeff Wicks reported on violence outside Malherbe Residence at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Pietermaritzburg campus.

Police and students engaged in tense confrontations in which certain students damaged gates, threw stones at passing cars and  police. Police in full riot gear fired rubber bullets and teargas canisters. At least one person was injured during the morning's pandamonium.
