A man was admitted to hospital on Wednesday evening with severe injuries after a truck was engulfed in flames near the South African Breweries (SAB) premises in Alberton, east of Johannesburg. 

The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) fire and rescue team responded swiftly to the call, with a team of 10 firefighters and two fire engines from the Thokoza Fire Station.

DEMS district manager media liaison William Ntladi told News24 in a statement that one trailer of the truck was severely damaged and added that the cause of the fire is still unknown. 

"The rear second trailer was saved. An inquest docket has been opened by the police," Ntladi said.
