Monday marked the anniversary of the brutal murder of University of Cape Town (UCT) student Uyinene Mrwetyana. She was raped and bludgeoned to death by an employee at the Clareinch Post Office in Claremont, Cape Town.

Her death sparked a nationwide outcry against the high rate of gender-based violence (GBV) in the country. It also gave rise to the #AmINext movement and mass protest action across South Africa.
