According to the version of events accepted by the court, Oscar Pistorius perceived a threat behind the locked bathroom door of his Silverwoods home the night he shot Reeva Steenkamp.

"They found that even though he perceived there was an intruder behind the door, he had made a severe mistake in that perception of his, and thus they found that at the time he acted in the way that he did, his life was not in danger so he could not say it was self-defense," explains Ulrich Roux, director of BDK Attorneys.

Roux spoke to News24's Nick Pawson on the third day of sentencing proceedings in the North Gauteng High Court (see here for more).
