Her peers may be ready to retire, but in the bustling township of Sebokeng in the south of Johannesburg, 72-year-old pensioner Aria Letoba shows no signs of slowing down. She started a winery in her backyard, no bigger than an Olympic pool, back in 2015, entering the ring of the centuries-old white-dominated industry of wine.

Born in Sharpeville in 1948, Letoba told News24 that her dream began while she was working for a couple who made their own wine. They sold it in their restaurant in Three Rivers, Vereeniging, in the 1980s.
