Students at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) rallied support in residence halls on Tuesday morning.

Their protests follow Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimande's announcement on Monday regarding university fees in 2017.

Nzimande said the State had absorbed the fee increases of 2016 ensuring there was no fee increase at universities.
