Kagisho Mamabolo, spokesperson from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), says staff from the scheme engaged with student leadership annually.

"They command a large following of students. They must lead the students," says Mamabolo of Student Representative Councils (SRC).

Each year NSFAS holds workshops on how the scheme operates, who is eligible and how repayments work.

He later argues NSFAS funds some students from what Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimande called the missing middle.
