Former Yemen president Ali Abdulah Saleh was killed on Monday by allied Houthi militia, after announcing his willingness to "open a new page" to deal with the Saudi-coalition led by Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Saleh became an ally with the militia in 2012 after he stepped down as president of Yemen.

The US-backed Saudi-led coalition has been fighting to defeat the Iran-backed Houthis, along with Saleh's forces in Yemen since March 2015.
