Collin Maine doing exactly what he was “appointed” for---going after the EFF.

Some political leaders are elected into political positions while some get appointed under the veil of ‘elected’. Mr Maine’s candidacy going to the national leadership elections was simply unknown. This was proven in the recent league’s rally address (8th February, 2016)—with the booing that accompanied Maine’s response to the EFF, a platform that he should have used to strengthen the voice of youth (in terms of youth issues) that has been lacking in the government political agenda.

Maine’s rhetoric of free-education was watered down by his dismissal of the student movement, which he referred to as ‘counter-revolutionary’.

Mr Maine’s speech echoed the same speech he ‘read’ during his inauguration, he tackled political issues of the ANC, political and personal challenges of President Zuma—and he continues to ignore the youth issues.

After his ‘appointment’ he moved swiftly to ensure particularly his “boss” President Zuma that the youth league will be obedient, and that they apologise for any harm that was caused by the leadership structure that existed before his ‘appointment’.

Unapologetically, the leader sought to allay fears of the reproduction of the old ANC Youth league that lacked respect for elders but promised to ensure that the league will maintain utmost respect. He went on to quote the bible; Exodus chapter 20, verse 12; "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you."

Few weeks later, the same president (Maine) attacked an elder, the Higher Education Minister Dr Blade Ndzimande. Apart from labelling him as incompetent following the students’ protests, Maine promised to take about 3000 students to picket in front of the minister’s house. So, one wonders, who was he referring to about ‘respect for elders’—president Zuma perhaps?

Mr Maine’s obsession with EFF seeks to affirm his blind-adoration of President Zuma. Here are some examples;

EFF speaks about Barclays, the ANC Youth league follows.

EFF insults the Guptas, ANC Youth league protects the Guptas.

EFF supports students’ protest, ANC Youth league lashes out at the students protest.

EFF calls for Dr Blade Ndzimande to fall, ANC Youth league attacks Blade Ndzimande.

EFF lashes out at the ANC and Zuma, ANC youth league protects the ANC and Zuma

EFF president incite violence on a family (the Guptas) ANC Youth league incites civil war

EFF condemns Mbete’s cockroaches’ utterances, ANC Youth league uses the monkey ‘phrase’ to refer to EFF members.

EFF decries the dismissal of former Finance minister Nene, ANC Youth leagues said Nene is not special

EFF executive visits Britain, Maine (Youth President) closes his ABSA account, a Barclays aligned bank (with British roots)

Next—the ANC Youth League will go to parliament on the opening of parliament and wait for EFF’s move to disrupt parliament proceedings, ANC Youth league will force itself to the precinct and all hell will break loose.

While all this is going on, youth issues remain unresolved—not to mention, just being raised. As per President Zuma’s plan; the youth league must be the watchdog and lapdog of the ANC and never challenge the ANC—they were reminded by Nathi Mthethwa that they are not independent, they are ANC.

ANC Youth league will not keep up with Julius Malema, EFF will continue to lead ANC Youth league, with the league simply responding to EFF and having no ideas of theirs except reactionary tactics to appear relevant to who? Because even ANC Youth league in its entirety does not respect the current ANC youth leadership, they take it as appointed and not elected. What happend in Soshanguve was a repeat of what happened in the Eastern Cape when Mr Maine tried to address Youth league members at the Walter Sisulu University campus in Mthatha in 2015, September.

Maine is not even recognised by majority structures of the youth in provinces as legit president, and it shows that, the pseudo political leader (Maine) has no definite organisational building plans, except the agenda to try and go after and delegitimise the EFF to appease his ‘boss’ President Zuma.

Attacking the media, Mr Maine referred to City Press as counter-revolutionary (an led by white-monopoly capital) for alleging that there are division within the NEC of the Youth league. In a rather unfortunate but confirming move, Mr Maine seems to enjoy the coverage of SABC, and he made no negative comments about the SABC. The SABC these days follows the ANC Youth league’s president from the hospital to the poorly supported rallies and meetings just to get the next responds of the Youth leader to the recent utterances of the EFF.

Mr Maine uttered very ill-conceived statements during his speech that I will not even bother to repeat, safe to say, one could just go onto you tube and download the speech.

President Zuma’s political strategy of dealing with the EFF might just backfire and hurt his administration bigtime when both hooligans (EFF and ANC Youth league supporters) go head-to-head in parliament.
