Peeing on the walls?!

The Poppet
The Poppet
With my little sister on the way, mom and dad thought it would be helpful if I was potty trained before she arrived. Needless to say, the month following that bold decision has been filled with lots of entertainment and frustration.

The potty training roller coaster ride has been quite a learning experience for mom and dad and they now know that there can be no ambiguity or room for interpretation by myself as to what they are requesting from me.
A bit of history

For the past 21 months I had become accustomed to ensuring that each nappy that graced my delicate bits was fully utilised for the purpose that it was intended. (Although on occasion, I did take the liberty of using my "water cannon" to disperse the crowds.)  That has all changed as I have actively been encouraged to wee without making use of the "extra absorbent zones that speed away wetness even faster" offered by my particular choice of nappy.

The world is a urinal! Or not.

I have often heard it said that as I am a boy, the world is my urinal. It turns out this "world" does NOT include my bedroom carpet, the kitchen floor or the passage walls. It really would have been useful knowing that little disclaimer up front.

It would have also been useful to know that depositing a "Malteser" (or Chuckle, for you Woolies fans) in the potty would receive a much more positive response than leaving a "chocolate log" on the bath mat...
But all is not in vain. Mom and dad have really learned how to focus, simplify and clarify their instructions and are also much more vigilant in closing the bathroom door when I am foot loose and nappy free.
I had heard that parents tend to regress during the potty training journey and I feel that this is now the case. Their initial enthusiasm seems to have waned but I am doing my best to keep them engaged in the process with a trickle of, well, trickles.
I am sure it will all end well.  After all, if the Lions can win the Currie Cup then ANYTHING is possible!

We choose not to believe as much. If you want to read more about The Poppet's adventures, take a look at his blog: The Poppet Chronicles.

What were your highs and lows during the potty training phase?
