Amanda van der Walt, a behaviour consultant and dog trainer at Canine Companion, tells Parent24 that there are a number of factors to consider when looking for a dog, and that the breed is important.
For example, she stresses, a labrador has the most stable temperament, but kids must be taught how to be around dogs, because even a "gatvol Labby" can bite if startled or pestered.
