Parents generally have different opinions about social media.
These opinions mainly tend to focus on issues of safety, and if it is okay for kids to be using the various platforms.
The latest social media application that has evoked critique and concern from parents is TikTok.
What is TikTok?
TikTok is a free social media app that lets you watch, create, and share videos - often to a soundtrack of the top hits in music - right from your phone.
This app became popular around August 2018, it is said that since then it has seen over 100 million users.
One parent recently wrote about how she thought TikTok was "fun and cute" until she logged in as her daughter and was horrified by some of the things she discovered on the app.
"After downloading the app, logging in as my daughter and following her “friends” for the last few weeks, I am truly scared for the impact this app will have on my child and yours," she revealed on Scary Mommy.
Personally I worry about how social media has the power to consume you as an adult, imagine how easy it is for a child to get consumed.
Moms on board
Despite the concerns of these parents, some celebrity moms seem to be enjoying TikTok with their kids.
For example, see how Victoria Beckham and son Romeo pull some dance moves on TikTok:
Courteney Cox shared on Instagram how her daughter lost her patience trying to teach her a dance routine on TikTok:
Reese Witherspoon went on Instagram and asked her son the question all parents want to know:
Perhaps it's a good idea to adopt an attitude of "If you can't beat them, join them"?
