Endometriosis is the growth of the lining of the uterus (endometrium) outside the body of the uterus, around the pelvic organs including the ovaries, pelvic side wall and bladder. These growths of tissue release certain hormones that influence the egg quality, cervical mucous hostility, implantation of the embryo and it can damage the anatomy of the pelvis.
It is primarily treated by surgery, including burning or cutting away the areas of abnormal tissue.
