The pressure is on as the MEC of Education in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, has to fulfill his promise of placing all children in school by the 30th of November, as he has promised.
Lesufi has confirmed on Twitter that 353 Grade 1 learners still need to be placed.
Lesufi has also said that four districts in Gauteng have placed all their learners. These districts include Ekurhuleni North, Gauteng North, Sedibeng East and Tshwane South.
Parent24 previously reported that Lesufi has assured parents that all children will be placed in schools by the end of the week, but parents are asking: At what cost?
This remains the question as parents are still raising their concerns with regards to how the Department of Education in Gauteng is dealing with the matter.
Hundreds of parents have mailed and messaged us, and are asking on social media how they can appeal the placements as they believe the department is carelessly placing children in schools.
Many have said children are being placed in schools far from their homes, and some even in schools they did not apply to.
In response to these grievances the department has explained that should a parent have any questions they should go to their district office and they will be assisted.
They need to and ask for an objection form, fill it in and clearly state their concerns and dissatisfaction.
Lesufi has responded to some of the parents saying:
Remember if the school you applied at is full, we’ve a responsibility to look for an alternative school. If the alternative is unsatisfactory you the right to decline the offer and fill an appeal form which will be adjudicated within 14-21 days. Reality is our schools are full.
