What's in a name? Sporting stardom apparently.

So claims the team at sports nutrition brand, Myprotein Australia, who put together more than 8000 names of sporting heroes from Olympic athletes, to rugby legends and soccer stars, and found that certain names popped up again and again.

Explaining their methodology, the team shared that they "used a large number of Wikipedia lists as well as articles from sources... to compile a list of 8,537 sports stars from a range of sports and countries.... These lists were then separated by gender with the totals of each name counted before merging derivatives and iterations of the same name. This meant that we counted names such as Jonathan, Johnny, and Jon under the umbrella of the name John".

The results are The Baby Names Set for Sporting Stardom top ten lists for boys and girls.

And while there is no scientific evidence to back up their claims, it might not hurt if you’re simply looking for some baby name inspiration.
