C-sections often get a bad rap, especially elective ones. "It's a major abdominal surgery!", you will hear at least one person exclaim while you are pregnant.
And while we are not contesting that fact, it also makes women believe that C-sections are just cold, emotionless surgeries. Women are sometimes disappointed when they end up with C-sections believing it's not a beautiful experience. That they don't get that imaginary mommy medal and Super Mommy cape that allegedly comes along with natural birth.
So when Cape Town couple Charné and Mark Young hired birth photographer Marysol Blomerus to document the birth of their daughter Lily it was a welcome change to the often clinical nature of C-sections. The best part of the video for me was when dad, Mark just held his little girl, doing skin-to-skin care in his arms and cried. There is nothing more moving than watching a father be so absolutely in love and happy that he is holding his child.
On her website Marysol says: "I shot that portion through the nursery window as I wasn't allowed in at the time, but I made it work and was sure to capture such incredible bonding moments between father and daughter that Charné would have otherwise missed as she was in recovery at the time. I know especially for moms that are for whatever reason separated from their babies even for 20 minutes, they long to know what they missed. "
It's such an incredible video and as a mom who had a C-section it was heart-warming to watch this beautiful family welcome their newest addition.
