Having a baby can be as joyful as it is stressful. 

It's a lot to consider like the potentially exorbitant costs of not only labour and birth, but future expenses, such as food, clothing and, further down the road, education. 

And if you were hoping to take a "we'll cross that bridge when we get there" approach to financing a family, Sonto Lemeko, head of voice and digital at Standard Bank Financial Consultancy says the earlier you start, the better.
