Let your teen cook!

This is a one-pot favourite, also suitable for an electric frying pan.

Don’t be too health-conscious with this recipe, mom. Diet cola just won’t cut it. Your teen is going to need the real deal – the one with the nine spoonfuls of sugar per glass – for that sweet and sticky sauce.

Top tip for your teen: Don’t leave out the soy or Worcestershire sauce. It neutralizes the sweetness of the cola and gives the chicken a lovely golden brown colour.

Cooking time: 60 minutes
Serves: 3-4 people

  • Small chicken braai pack (± 5 mixed portions) or 3 large chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 500ml bottle of Coca-Cola
  • 10ml (2 tsp) soy or Worcestershire sauce
Cut the chicken into smaller portions and season lightly with salt and pepper. Place in a medium pot or electric frying pan, skin side down. Add remaining ingredients.

Cover pot or pan with a lid and cook until render over moderately high heat (± 40 minutes).

Remove the lid and braise the chicken in the gravy for another ± 15 minutes until shiny and brown. Turn over to glaze the other side.

Watch that it doesn’t burn! Serve huge bowl of rice and salad.
