When little Elijah failed his newborn hearing screening only a few hours after being born, his parents knew that there was a good chance that he wouldn't be passing any of the other tests coming his way.

After the third audiologist test yielded the same result, parents Ahavah and Jason Cook, knew that they had to accept the facts.

Elijah was born with severe deafness and according to Ahavah's YouTube channel, he can only hear at 75 decibels in his right ear and his left ear is profoundly deaf.

It was no real surprise that their son had hearing problems, both of their mothers and fathers are deaf and Jason has no hearing in his left ear.

The Cooks asked many questions and did a lot of research before their then 9-week-old son was fitted with a tiny hearing aid.

The moment when he got to hear his mother's voice for the very first time was captured on video.

Cooing and smiling

Elijah's parents feared that they would never hear their son coo or make noises in response to them but hearing aid technology has made that a reality for them. Elijah now smiles and interacts with his surroundings much more than he ever did before.

There will be many more tests in Elijah's life as he gets older to determine what will be the best route for him regarding implants. For now, his parents are enjoying interacting with their baby in a way they feared they may have had the chance to do.
