Earlier this year Johnny Depp, dressed as the popular Captain Jack Sparrow, paid a surprise-visit to a children's home in Australia.
On a recent episode on the Graham Norton Show he opened up about his personal experience as a parent of a child who nearly lost her life from an E.coli infection in 2007.

He explains that this is closely linked to his reasons for visiting children's homes, hospitals and schools.
He also mentions that putting a smile on the faces of parents and children has become more important since this experience, "the darkest time" of his life.
