A new play set by LEGO has hit the market and little girls around the world are loving it. No longer do girls have to play with regular old LEGO or sets aimed purely at boys, but they now have their own special toys.
Lego Friends contains a group of pretty figurines with hair, make up and cute clothing. Very unlike the figurines that boys get to play with that are simple. The Lego Friends figurines can also only move their arms and heads unlike the toys for boys that have complete freedom to move as they please. By creating the toys in this way, some parents feel that LEGO is trying to portray that females are physically incapable of certain tasks...

How boys and girls play
During the research phase, LEGO found that when boys used construction sets they preferred to build the structure and then play with the outside. They create scenarios and use vehicles but not much attention is paid to the inside of the building. When girls wanted to construct a building, they were more concerned with being able to play with the rooms inside the building. They wanted tiny paint canisters and chalk boards and beds.
That's why Lego Friends was created. The play sets include a house, a salon, a lab and even a treehouse. There are new characters and animals plus many accessories. Perhaps little girls should be encouraged to play with regular LEGO and not have their own particular play sets, but can it really do any harm?
What do you think? Should girls have "special" toys or are they unnecessary?
