The terrifying witches themselves aside, the story is as exciting as it gets, as the reader follows a little boy and his sweet grandmother as they thwart the efforts of a coven of witches who plan to to rid Britain of children - by turning them into mice!
Now a 2020 movie adaptation promises to take viewers on a rollicking journey on the big screen, in South Africa from 6 November.
It's sure to be a hit with adults and kids alike, as the cast is packed with big names including Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci and Chris Rock.
