The planet is currently on a "worst-case" trajectory.

Global warming, which is the gradual heating of Earth's surface, oceans and atmosphere, is increasing at such a rate that we are heading into a dystopian future, with dire consequences for our children, according to environmental futurist Nicholas King.

"That's a very unpleasant world," says King, referring to the future state of the planet. "It's one in which everything that we know as humanity - all of our systems, our food systems, our infrastructure systems our water and energy systems simply aren't designed for those extremes - they will all collapse," explains King.
