However, what happens when some of the invited family members feel they deserve these gifts more than the mom-to-be does?
One family has been left divided after a mom-to-be's sister-in-law was caught on camera stealing gifts.
The giving before the take
The expectant mom wrote on Reddit to ask for advice saying that she is not ashamed to say that she has a great family and in-laws.
She added that her in-laws treat her well except for her brother-in-law named Austin, who likes to point out how little he thinks of the soon-to-be mom, even though his wife is from a low-income family too. Austin's wife is also expecting a baby soon.
This woman says that her sister threw her baby shower which was not fancy but affordable. Nevertheless, everyone appreciated the effort except for her sister-in-law, Austin's wife.
Her sister-in-law showed up without a gift, criticised the baby shower party, and went on about how glamorous her own baby shower will be when she has one.
She started asking about the baby shower costs and joked about the mom-to-be's outfit, saying that it probably cost more than the actual baby shower.
She added that her sister-in-law acted terribly towards her family and friends, but none of her in-laws said anything about the behaviour.
Things really went sour when her sister noticed that several gifts that were in another room during the party had gone missing.
She said that they looked around and could not find them. As a last resort, they checked the camera footage and found her sister-in-law walking out with many gifts.
"I was fuming. I called to confront her and asked her to bring the gifts back. She denied it and was hurt that I accused her of stealing from me and said she would tell the family about me lying when I insisted. I told her I have a video and have no problem involving the family too to see who is at fault," said the mom-to-be.
Although Austin's wife returned the gifts, this mom-to-be says that her mother-in-law refuses to believe that gifts were stolen and has firmly taken her son and his wife's side in the whole drama, leaving a massive wedge between the family.
