After 35 years couples in China will now be allowed to have two children.
The controversial one-child policy was introduced in 1979 in hopes that it would slow down the population's growth rate.

The announcement was made after a four day summit by the Communist Party where heightened concerns for the economy were debated.
The policy became more relaxed due to a growing economy and an ageing population in more recent years.
It has not yet clear when the new policy will be implemented.
