We asked out Facebook fans: "Is childcare a major cost for your family?", here's what they had to say:
Childcare is expensive - but nothing like in the UK, we paid 1000 Pounds a month for 1 child in nursery in London. That was half my salary just on his nursery fees. Proportionally it is a LOT cheaper here. - Kath Kenyon Wimbush
It does take quite a big chunk out of our budget too, but it is something we HAVE to pay. We do not expect to pay any less. They also need to make a living, and it takes a lot to look after 8 little ones. - Tanya Kotze
When you add up the costs of full time nanny plus pre-school etc it does all add up! still cheaper than in the UK where no one can afford a nanny! - Nicola Darkin
No, I am lucky enough to have only one child that is able to come back to the office (self employed) with me after school. - Sharon Swanepoel
Yes. Two kids. After school fees and aftercare for both (two working parents), that's a fairly huge chunk gone. I've been motivating for a while that childcare should be tax-deductible for working parents. The only reason my kids are in aftercare is because I work. - Maritza Van Den Heuvel
Having 4 children at 4 different schools is costs the same as my car payments. The 4th is 2 years old and is in full day daycare and my eldest is 13 and is in the brand name phase. I'm permanently complaining. - Stafford Fry
Here are some articles on childcare:
Mommy has to go to work
Can you afford school fees?
Are private schools worth it?
