"Ovaries reason for not conceiving"

Saabirah Razak tells us about her struggle to get pregnant

Myself and my husband have been trying for about 3 years to get pregnant. I've always used the same gyni, even before I got married but my new medical aid didn't cover him so I went to a new one. A female. Thinking she would know and understand. Was I wrong!!

She did a scan and blood test and my husband's semen was checked and she told us nothing was wrong and we should come back in 1year's time. By March this year I was convinced something was wrong, because I wasn't getting pregnant. I went with my gut feeling and went back to my old gynea! I went on a Saterday and by the next Wednesday I was on the operating table! He found that continues infections in my fallopion tubes caused some serious scaring tissue and my right fallopion tube had completely twisted a couple of times! He also discovered that I have PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome)! He undid the twisting and tried to clear as much scaring tissue as possible.

I went on Provera and Ino-follic for a month and by the next appointment he informed us that my tubes had too much damage and that IVF (In Vitro fertilisation) is our best option.  Our hearts were broken! Not everyone has the R18 000 lying about for the IVF treatment.

My gyni suggested in the mean time I'm put on Clomid, Ino-follic and a hormone injection I must take just after I'm done with the Clomid. He will then time my ovulation for me with a series of scans and then we hope for the best!

It's been a real roller coaster couple of months but I'm happy to say with an amazing husband, family and friends as a support group I think we will make it through this.
