With the thought of back to school leaving many parents "in a cold sweat" the online option seems to make more sense than ever.

To give you an idea of what's out there, here's a look at a few of the local online schools you might want to consider this year.

Growing Minds

Since lockdown began, registered Cape Town-based school, Growing Minds, has moved its pupils to a virtual platform and are now offering an online virtual schooling programme for Grades 1 – 7.

The service includes integrated and interactive CAPS curriculum-based content, daily tuition with qualified teachers in small classes, CAPS assessments and term reports.

The online classes take place from 9:00 to 13:30, Monday to Friday.

@Home Online by Play Sense

Play Sense has taken early childcare and education programmes online, with its virtual @Home Online Program.

The @Home Online Program is accessed via Zoom from 8:30 to 11:30 each day.

The @Home Online Program package includes live group sessions, a virtual teacher, and online resources and activities to keep your little one occupied and stimulated.

The online school boasts a cutting-edge learning management system, online textbooks, live classes with teachers who are specialists in their subjects.

Following the Cambridge curriculum, CambriLearn offers online education for pupils from the Pre-Primary phase up to an International GCSE (Grades 10 & 11), AS (Grade 12) and A-Levels (NQF level 4).

The school is accessible on mobile, tablet, laptop and desktop devices.

It offers live online lessons, progression tests and assignments, mock exams and a chat function providing its pupils with a direct line of contact with their teacher.
