Princess Beatrice has given birth to her first child four months after first sharing pregnancy news.

A Buckingham Palace representative made an official announcement via social media on Monday, 20 September.

"Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter on Saturday 18th September 2021, at 23.42, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. The baby weighs 6 pounds and 2 ounces," the announcement read.

The spokesperson did not reveal the infant's name; however, they noted Beatrice's family were all "delighted" by the news.

A special thanks was included in the statement to the hospital staff who cared for the princess during birth.

"The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well".

The newly arrived baby girl is the queen's 12th great-grandchild, the second grandchild of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice first child with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Mozzi also has a son from a previous relationship Christopher Woolf and according to the statement, "the couple are looking forward to introducing their daughter to her big brother".

In terms of the line of succession to the British throne, the new baby is reportedly the 11th, and Princess Beatrice is now 10th in line.
