The baby naming struggle begins: A-Bundlely Blessed Diaries #7

“Do you have names for the babies yet?” I can’t even count how many times we’ve been asked this question.

But, the answer is no. Not because we haven’t discussed baby names yet. Believe me, we have, and we’ve gone back and forth on so many options.

It’s just that our focus has been on other things, but also, how do you come up with three names in one go?!

I still remember the night we came across Nikolai’s name. We had our monthly date night and decided to go for supper and a movie.

And it was while watching The Equalizer starring Denzel Washington that we heard one of the characters were called Nikolai.

Of course, Nicolyn immediately took a liking to the name (insert rolling eyes emoji!). But for me, it kinda needed to grow on me.

I think the more he said the name out loud, the more I liked the idea of naming our son after a movie character. Nikolai. I loved it.

But it was more the meaning of the name “victorious; conqueror of the people” that actually convinced me.

Three N's and three C's

This time around, however, I don’t think a date night or three will help us to come up with baby names.

Also, is there even enough time for a date night in all of this craziness?

And if Nicolyn has the final say, all three babies’ names will have some variation of his name. In the meantime, I’ve proposed that Nicolyn chooses our girl’s name.

And obviously, he’ll go with something starting with the initial N.

I’ll take the honour of choosing the boy names and would really like their names to start with the initial C. Then we’ll be even up in the house – three N's and three C's! I just didn’t think it would be this difficult.

Chipo, Carama and Chausiku?

Some of our friends have started to send through suggestions. But I had to shoot most of them down because some of the names were already taken in the family or our friend circle.

And to be honest, I don’t think we’re brave enough to name our kids something like Chipo, Carama and Chausiku (LOL)! We’re really not fussy people, and would just like the names to be one-syllable and not difficult to pronounce.

Fortunately for us, we’re not having identical triplets. So other than sharing a birth date, and slight resemblances in their features, each one will have their own unique little personality. Therefore, their names don’t have to rhyme.

What we will do though, is to let them wear their hospital ID wristbands just a little while longer at home, so that we can get used to who’s who.

Nicolyn also read a funny story of triplet parents who got confused with which baby was already fed, and ended up with the same baby drinking two bottles in a row (haha).

And that baby happily did so without kicking up a fuss.

So to make sure this doesn’t happen to us, I’m already not keen on the idea of them wearing the same clothes and looking like identical triplets all the time.

Maybe just sometimes. But who knows, maybe we’ll have the babies’ names locked down before the end of this month, or maybe next month (ha!). In the meantime, we’ll go with Number 1, 2 and 3!

I’m even willing to be spontaneous and draw out of a hat if we have enough name suggestions! So, please feel free to share some of your favourites with us.

Until next time!
