A video of pregnant Taekwondo champion Aminat Idrees has proven that there's nothing mothers can't do.
The 8-months pregnant athlete showed off her skills at the Nigeria National Sports Festival, earning a gold medal in Taekwondo at the biennial multi-sport event.
"It's such a privilege for me. I just decided to give it a try after training a couple of times... It feels really good," Idrees said of her win.
But while many were amazed at her achievement, the Nigerian athlete received some backlash online after a video showing Idrees performing at the event went viral.
But according to Taekwondo champ, "A lot of people don't understand what Taekwondo is actually about".
"I feel this is an avenue to educate people about this. Taekwondo has two branches: the combat sport and Poomsae – which is a form of exercise... just displaying the hand and leg techniques in Taekwondo. I participated in a Poomsae event," she said.
She explained further that she "felt there wasn't much risk attached to it" since she had been given the green light from her doctor, "as well as the organizing body of the games" to participate.
