As I near the end of the 3rd trimester of my 2nd pregnancy, weight is, well, a weighty issue for me. And then just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, I broke the scale this morning. No, not by standing on it (that’s what you were thinking wasn’t it?). It’s one of those electric scale thingies that needs batteries and I broke the clasp that keeps the battery in place.
It’s very irritating and leaves me with a serious dilemma: do I just let go these last few weeks? Or do I replace the scale and continue on with my obsessive morning weigh in rituals?
The problem is that during my first pregnancy, through sheer will power and a lot of exercise, I only put on 8kgs. And I’m flipping irritated about that. Naturally, at the time I thought 8kgs was absolutely massive but in hindsight (gotta love hindsight) it wasn’t all that bad. And now? The NikNaks! They call my name! But the scale! It’s brutal! And I cannot bear the thought of putting on a single kilogram more than I did last time.
Should I, in the words of one very sensitive friend, just get over myself? My reasoning for trying to curb the orange wave of NikNak madness is that I don’t like the thought of battling with a new baby, a 2-year-old and a bulge around my waist. I’ll have enough to worry about besides doing up my jeans. I don’t expect to look good enough to model underwear 8 weeks post-partum (Heidi Klum I hate you), but I wouldn’t like people to ask me when I’m due when the baby has actually been born already.
My advice to those of you who are pregnant for the first
time? Pile on loads of weight. Like, 45kgs if you can manage it. That way, any
amount you put on in any subsequent pregnancies will seem an improvement. Can
you imagine being able to say, “I’m doing so well! I’ve ONLY put on 30kgs this
time!” Ah, bliss.
How much weight did you pick up during your pregnancies?
