6 signs you’re having a miscarriage

Apart from death and debilitating illness, miscarriages are one of the worst things that can happen to a pregnant woman. One minute you’re rubbing your beautiful baby bump and bonding with your baby, the next moment that “pregnant feeling” can be gone.

According to The Stir, Sarah Wagner, a gynaecologist at Loyola University Health System, says that somewhere between one in four and one in three pregnancies end in miscarriage.

Six symptoms to help you understand when you can start stressing about a miscarriage:

1. Bleeding.

All pregnant woman spot, that’s normal, but when it starts getting unbearable and feeling like you've got your period you have to get to your gynaecologist or doctor as soon as possible.

2. Severe cramps or pain.

Cramps that can be compared to period cramps are still fine, but pain that resembles sharp stabbing pains are not okay and that’s when you go see your doctor.

3. Blood clots or tissue.

Very small blood clots can be normal (less than pea-sized), but large blood clots are not normal. Passing tissue is never normal in pregnancy.

4. Fever, chills or dizziness.

Miscarriages can cause infections and with infections comes fevers that are usually accompanied by either chills or dizziness. This can be a sign that something may be wrong.

5. Decreased movement of the baby.

Miscarriages can happen right through from the first to the third trimester, one of the easiest ways to detect a miscarriage is the decrease in movement of your baby. Try testing your baby by counting their kicks. Eat something, then note how often your baby moves.

6. You lose the ‘pregnant feeling’.

Following your intuition is very important, even after consulting your doctor and he says everything is fine; you’ll still have peace of mind.
