Children see, children do

This powerful campaign created for a "child-friendly Australia" by NAPCAN demonstrates just how much influence parents can have  in shaping the behaviour of their children.

The roots of anti-social behaviour?

It has been around for some time, but the message is ever-more powerful; teachers complain that kids are becoming much harder to control in classes and anti-social behaviour is presenting itself in younger and younger kids.

Not all children will mimic their parents, but long-term habits do leave an impression on young minds. The things we do, sometimes without thinking, can shape the response children have to situations they will face, too.

Being a good role model

Of course, the positive reaction we can have to this disturbing short video can also bear fruit over a lifetime. If we model life-affirming, kind behaviour based on a firm ethical and moral foundation  our children will be exposed to the kids of actions and words which will better serve them when it comes to dealing with other people and having self-respect.

Another benefit to this is that parents themselves will start to check those angry outbursts  or adult tantrums.
