  • Retro looking mountain bike tyres, help build more trails
  • If you buy one of these Soil Searching edition Specialized tyres, some of the price goes into trail development
  • The eligible tyres are some of Specialized's best enduro and downhill riding options

Specialized casts a large presence across all things mountain biking.

The company’s founder, Mike Sinyard, was a crucial part of evolving mountain bikes from fringe off-road riding machines, in northern California, to a global adventure and fitness phenomenon.

As mountain biking grows apace, and trail access becomes more precious, Specialized realised the value of using some of its revenue, to secure the integrity of trails. Without a growing network of sustainable trails, there will certainly be tapered demand for some of its mountain bike models.

The Soil Searching project is Specialized's solution. It funds skilled trail builders to identify and collaborate where appropriate, helping to build trails that will last.

Rolling in more money, for shaping terrain

Assisting in its revenue funding model for the Soil Searching project, are new tyre derivatives.

Mountain bike tyres are expensive, but knowing that a percentage of the purchase price is being reinvented into a sustainable global trail network, assuages the purchase price.

How do you know which of Specialized’s mountain bike tyres will be rolling Rands back into trail building? The ones with a tanwall casing.

Adored by riders who pine for the retro appearance of 1980s and 1990s mountain bikes, the Soil Searching tyre derivatives, with their iconic tanwall finish, will apply to Specialized’s Butcher and Eliminator. These are both tyres with an aggressive tread pattern, featuring large traction blocks.

The right sizes, for all rider requirements

Specialized will be offering the Soil Searching tanwall tyres in both large and normal volume sizes, for the 27.5” and 29er wheel size.

Your three core size options will be 27.5x2.6”, 29x2.3”, 29x2.6” and a 27.5x2.3” version of the Soil Searching Eliminator.

The Soil Searching programme has a strong South African connection, as one of its key global staff members, is master trail builder, Fanie Kok.
