  • Continental is known for its tyre technology
  • The German brand has been in business for a century and a half
  • To celebrate its bicycle tech, Continental has a new limited edition gravel bike – with yellow tyres

Germany has a long history of cycling innovation.

With some of the best research universities globally and developed cycling infrastructure, you'll discover a rich diversity of German bicycle component suppliers.

One of the oldest and most established is Continental. Its mountain bike, gravel and road tyres are known for their grip, rolling efficiency and puncture-proofing.

Continental celebrates its 150th corporate anniversary this year. To mark this achievement, it is building 150 rather special gravel bikes.

Gravel is where it is at

Why gravel bikes? The growth in all-terrain touring bicycles remains very strong.

With the world's abundance of gravel roads that route to interesting places, Continental's marketing team knows the value of celebrating 150 years of trade with a special edition gravel bike.

Gravel adventure riding is cycling segment with the most interest, since the pandemic started.

A future classic

Each of these 150 limited edition Continental gravel bikes will have a unique serial number attached to the frame. There will also be an accompanying certification of authentication. Both are crucial anchors of future value for bicycle collectors.

The project is a collaboration with Swiss boutique frame brand, Open.

The Basel frame designer supplies its latest New U.P. gravel frame, rolling handmade carbon-fibre wheels and Shimano's GRX 810 all-terrain groupset.

Looks good - and safer, too

Distinguishing these Conteintal limited edition gravel bikes, are their tyres.

Although the Terra Trail is a standard Continental casing designed for exceptional ride comfort, colour chemists and production engineers have produced it in a vivid rubber tread finish.

The limited-edition bikes will be immediately recognisable, thanks to their yellow and cream Continental Terra Trail tyres.

These Continental Terra Trail tyres are 40mm in width, which has gradually become the default standard for gravel biking. And much larger than those 28mm tyres fitted to most gravel bikes only a few seasons ago.
