- Known for its wheels, ENVE has broadened the product portfolio to road bike frames
- Unlike many other cycling brands, ENVE’s carbon-fibre parts are not made in Asia
- Its new Custom Road bike is available in some wild colours
Cycling is saturated with clever names and ambiguous marketing terms, but ENVE is exactly what it implies.
The American cycling company is a specialist in carbon-fibre wheels and components. Designed and manufactured in Utah, ENVE’s wheels have a reputation for excellence - at a price.
Greg Minnaar has been racing ENVE carbon-fibre wheels on his downhill mountain bike for years, proving the robustness of these company’s products.
With all its engineering and fabrication resources having recently moved to a larger facility, in Ogden (Utah), ENVE saw an opportunity to something even more ambitious: an entire bike frame.
The result is ENVE’s Custom Road, offering a range of two different geometries for riders who wish to either prioritize racing or flow, with their road riding. ENVE’s Race geometry features a shorter wheelbase, for a livelier ride, whilst the All Road frame angles deliver greater stability, by stretching the distance between front and rear axle.
Engineers and product planners at ENVE also give credence to the ‘wider-is-better’ tyre trend, with all the Custom Road bike, regardless of geometry, being compatible with 35mm width tyres.
Stunning parts and paint finishes
All of ENVE’s Custom Road bikes will feature the brand’s very desirable components. These include ENVE’s own carbon-fibre fork, an aerodynamic seat mast and integrated handlebar with stem.
Celebrated Italian saddle manufacturer, Selle Italia, has produced an ENVE branded version of its SLR Boost saddle, which weighs only 122g.
ENVE offers the new Custom Road range in a dazzling array of 38 colours, allowing a potential owner the distinction of frame and component customisation.
As with anything from ENVE, the investment is significant. A Custom Road frame and fork is priced at R100 000 and if you want a complete build, those start at R145 000 and peak just beyond R180 000. Adding a formulation of your own custom paint colours, is a R20 000 option.
