To say that Alberton resident Philip van der Westhuizen has not just embraced the sport of cycling, but the niche activity of collecting vintage steel bikes, is an understatement.

Usually The Collectors in this series have been riding and collecting bikes for decades. Philip only started cycling three years ago.

"We started a Friday vintage bike coffee ride in ‘The South’ in 2020 – I built my first vintage bike then and was hooked," explains Philip. "I am a Charted Accountant by profession and the workload and pressure can get a bit high time; collecting vintage bicycles helps me to shut down from work and stimulates my thoughts on another level."
