  • A core group of mountain bikers still prefer riding flat pedals
  • If you prefer the freedom of flats, there is a new shoe choice from Giro
  • The secret of this new flat pedal shoe, is its special midsole foam, that helps you stay in control

If you prefer the freedom of riding with flat pedals, Giro has a new shoe promising a lot of comfort and performance.

Flat pedal riders are never averse to riding more adventurous trails. They also require excellent walking comfort off the bike, especially when hiking up steep trails, to discover more daring descents.

With the Latch, footwear designers at Giro have created a robust shoe that also helps reduce trail fatigue and keeps you in control.

Muting terrain impact

Rolling through rock gardens and landing jumps put a lot of strain on mountain bike shoes. Giro has created a new foam formulation for its moulded midsole, allowing the Latch to better absorb impact energy through the pedals.

The goal with this new mid-sole design was to slow the shoe rebound when landing big jumps and drops. Or pinging through rocks.

With the Latch’s mid-sole reacting 'slower' to terrain, riders will have less risk of an impact bouncing their feet off the pedals.

Gamma tread pattern

Beyond the mid-sole terrain absorption, Giro has used a gamma tread design. With flat pedal riders having very personal preference with the placement of their traction pins, the gamma tread is shaped to allow the most natural foot position and easy micro-adjustments while riding.

The tread pattern also has adequate negative space between its traction lugs, to give these Latch shoes excellent self-cleaning properties. That means you’ll easily walk the mud off in a few steps, instead of into your car or house.

Giro has saved nearly a third in weight by using the latest fabrics and materials with the new Latch. It is 100g lighter, compared to Giro’s previous-generation flat pedal shoes. As a reference, the size 43 Latch, weighs only 334g.

If you prefer the freedom and foot-out cornering style of riding flat pedals, the Giro Latch brings an exciting blend of new comfort and control technologies to market.
