  • DT Swiss make some of the most reliable hubs you can buy
  • The Swiss brand has now upgraded one of its most popular models
  • And you can be more of a DIY mechanic, with the latest upgrade kit

Switzerland is home to some of the world’s best mountain biking trails, riders and engineers.

As you would expect from a country that obsesses about precision and intricate engineering details, Swiss mountain bike components are respected.

DT Swiss is perhaps the most celebrated of all Helvetic mountain bike brands, specializing in spokes, rims and hubs.

Good hubs, make a huge difference

You can build a great mountain bike wheel, withexpensive carbon-fibre rims, but if the hubs are draggy and don’t spin freely, or mismatch your pedal inputs with tardy engagement, it will be a source of frustration.

The DT Swiss mountain bike range has now added an updated version of its 350-series hubs. These hubs use the ingenious DT Swiss star ratchet system, which is terrifically reliable and easy to service.

With its new 350 hubs, DT Swiss product planners settled on 36t ratchets. If you want slightly slower or quicker engagement from your rear wheel, each time you reengage a pedal stroke, the 350 hub is available with different size ratchets, from 18- to 54t.

Upgrades you can do at home

Thanks to a modular design it is easy to swap out the different internals, to change the engagement. No propriety tools are required and even the most novice of home mechanics can modify their DT Swiss hubs.

Beyond the update to its 350-series, DT Swiss is also offering a more complete upgrade for owners of its most affordable hubs. Mountain bikers rolling the company’s 370-series rear hub can now replace its pawl-type internal with a ratchet kit, dramatically boosting performance.

DT Swiss has been offering various parts to accomplish this upgrade, but now sells a consolidated start ratchet upgrade kit, with everything you need, in a single package.

If you fancy some Swiss watchmaking precision for your mountain bike wheels, these new DT Swiss upgrades are ideal.
