Wahoo pedals into Zwift's virtual riding space

It has been a busy few months for American activity brand, Wahoo. The company has increased its presence in the pro peloton and released a selection of new products.

With an established portfolio of indoor training hardware and wearables, Wahoo is a reference accessory brand for many riders. As digital training technology has triggered a greater desire for riders to log huge mileages in their living rooms, especially during winter, options have improved.

The Wahoo range of turbo trainers and stationary bikes feel like riding the real thing. They are also configured to sync with all the latest digital training aids seamlessly.

Pedalling into the virtual world

Wahoo’s product planners have a clear ecosystem approach. Its purchase of Speedplay’s legacy pedal business brought power-metering into its portfolio, completing much of the Wahoo hardware strategy.

But with all the associated training hardware, most Wahoo users still subscribe to Zwift’s virtual riding world for their indoor training experience. That all changes with Wahoo’s purchase of RGT.

It is not the first non-hardware acquisition by Wahoo. It bought Sufferfest in 2019, rebranding it as Wahoo SYSTM, offering riders a selection of training programmes and videos.

Make your own route

What drew riders to RGT was its popular Magic Road feature. This allows an uploaded GPX file to create a virtual route, which can be popularised with authentic scenery from RGT’s library.

RGT’s sophisticated software design delivers lifelike ride dynamics such as drafting, cornering and braking within the virtual cycling realm, further enabled by Wahoo’s range of trainers.

Better value for your indoor training 

Wahoo RGT and SYSTM combine in a single subscription, as Wahoo X, offering riders who take their virtual training seriously, great value.

"The acquisition of RGT Cycling and the launch of the new Wahoo X subscription service gives athletes more options, more convenience, and more control over how they train," said Mike  Saturnia, CEO of Wahoo.

What do you need to run the new Wahoo virtual riding products? Wahoo SYSTM and RGT work on iOS, Android, macOS and Windows. Pricing? The monthly subscription is $14.99, and a year $129.
