Achieving my best World Cup podium finish was a surreal experience. My form has been building steadily and I wanted to achieve a top-five placing, going into the Olympic Games.

After a very solid performance in the short course race at Les Gets on Friday, I went into Saturday’s training relaxed and confident. Things nearly went horribly wrong.

The conditions were constantly changing all week and during my first lap on course, a simple section had become loose and caught me completely off guard.

It was the first descent of the course and my bike simply slid out from under me and I had a rather nasty crash - which knocked my confidence.
