Johannesburg - Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema is expected to visit Alexandra on Monday where he will embark on a campaign against xenophobic violence.

The EFF will do door-to-door visits and host community meetings to tell people that attacking foreign nationals was not the solution to social and economic problems, the party said.

Malema was expected to be at the women's hostel on 4th Avenue in Alexandra at 16:00.

This follows attacks on foreign nationals in the township.

On Saturday, Mozambican national Emmanuel Sithole was stabbed in Alexandra and died later in hospital.

Three people were arrested for his murder on Sunday evening and are expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

This came after police offered a reward of up to R100 000 for information that may lead to the arrest and conviction of Sithole’s killers.

Major General Leshabane said witnesses alleged that Sithole was a street vendor who was selling cigarettes.

"Suspects approached him and took his goods without paying and thereafter an argument ensued.

He was then confronted by one of the suspects who was wielding a knife, said Leshabane.

"In the process he was stabbed and taken to the local clinic. He later died at [a] hospital in Johannesburg,” said Leshabane.

Police said at this stage it was not clear whether the attack was linked to the threats against foreign nationals or if it was a criminal act to rob Sithole.
