  • Kyle Verreynne and Tony de Zorzi are hoping to turn the Cape Cobras' fortunes around this season.
  • The Cobras will be aiming for their first domestic title since 2013.
  • They get their season underway on 2 November against the Titans at Newlands.

Cape Cobras duo Kyle Verreynne and Tony de Zorzi are excited to get back into the swing of things as domestic cricket returns in South Africa next month.

Cricket South Africa confirmed earlier this month that the 4-Day Franchise Series will kick-off cricket's return on 2 November following the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cape Cobras will get their campaign underway when they host the Titans at Newlands.

Despite being one of the most successful franchises in the country, the Cobras have not won a domestic title since 2013.

Speaking at a KFC Mini-Cricket Western Cape seminar this past weekend, Verreynne and De Zorzi acknowledged that they were both eager to help the Cape-based franchise change their fortunes.

"Everyone is looking really good. Hopefully, we can end that drought so we're just looking forward to starting the season now," said Verreynne.

Cobras' new signing De Zorzi says that there has been a pre-season belief in the young team, under the leadership of coach Ashwell Prince and captain Zubayr Hamza.

"The new guys seem to have adapted quite quickly. It's a young squad that has played a lot of cricket together and individually so there's a belief in the squad and hopefully, we can end the trophy drought," said De Zorzi.

De Zorzi made the switch from the Titans to the Cobras during the off-season.

Newlands has been a happy hunting ground for De Zorzi after he smashed a career-best double hundred for the Titans against Cobras at Newlands earlier this year. The left-handed batsman finished unbeaten on 213 to salvage a draw for the Pretoria-franchise in that match.

And he is excited to begin his new journey in the Mother City.

"I'm excited to work with this particular group of players, Ashwell and under the leadership of Zubayr," said the 23-year-old.

"With the young guys we have in the team, we can achieve something special. I'm very happy to be here and maybe contribute to winning."
