Cape Town - Mark Boucher would be capable of taking over as Proteas coach, Titans CEO Jacques Faul believes.

"If there is a search for a new coach after the World Cup, then I believe they definitely won't go wrong by appointing Mark," Faul told Netwerk24.

It was Faul who appointed Boucher as Titans coach in August 2016, despite the former Proteas wicketkeeper having no prior coaching experience.

Boucher has since led the Titans to five domestic titles - two One Day Cups, two T20 Challenge titles and one four-day Sunfoil Series trophy.

It is likely that the Proteas will be looking for a new coach after the Cricket World Cup, with earlier reports indicating that current incumbent Ottis Gibson has a mandate to win the tournament.

With only a solitary win from six games, South Africa's chances at the ongoing World Cup are all but over.

The Proteas lie eighth on the 10-team table with three matches left to play.

Faul added that Cape Cobras coach Ashwell Prince and Highveld Lions coach Enoch Nkwe would also be candidates to take over from Gibson.
