Cape Town - Proteas captain AB de Villiers is an injury concern ahead of his side's crunch ICC Champions Trophy clash against India at the Oval on Sunday.

De Villiers is nursing a tight hamstring following Wednesday's rain-affected 19-run loss to Pakistan, and Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Friday that he will undergo a fitness test on Saturday to determine his availability for the India clash.

With all four teams in Group B tied on two points each, Sunday's clash against India is effectively a quarter-final, with the winner progressing to the semi-finals - and the loser heading home.

De Villiers has been struggling with the bat in this tournament, having recorded scores of 4 and 0 against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, respectively.

His golden duck on Wednesday was the first of his ODI career.

Proteas coach Russell Domingo, speaking after the Pakistan loss, said he backed De Villiers to come good against India and he also downplayed the seriousness of the hamstring strain.

If De Villiers is unavailable, the captaincy will almost certainly go to Faf du Plessis while Farhaan Behardien will be the likely player called-up into the match-day XI.

Sunday's match starts at 11:30 SA time.
